An analysis of different industries across the globe reveals that the transformation of social and economic dimensions of societies through mechanisation still persists to date. In this regard, unlike the past Industrial Revolution that focused on mass production of identical products, the modern Industrial Revolution has witnessed advancement in technology and as such, created a platform for mass customisation of products. While the industrialist Henry Ford’s assembly line could easily mass produce cars of the same colour with ease, the modern assembly lines in different industries are capable of producing products that match the needs of individual consumers on the market.

Another element of Industrial Revolution that is evident in modern society is the use of machines. During the 18th and 19th centuries, mechanisation of production processes played an instrumental role in promoting social and economic transformation of these societies. Whereas the use of machines is still a core backbone upon which the modern economy thrives, it is necessary to point out that the modern Industrial Revolution is founded on intelligent or smart technology that is built upon aspects such as artificial intelligence. Therefore, while in the past human beings played a critical role in monitoring different sections of the assembly line, the modern assembly lines depend almost entirely on monitoring and control by robots and computer systems.
