The purpose of this report is to explore the role and importance of leaders and leadership in modern businesses. In particular, the scope of this report would be to explore the role and importance of leaders and leadership in driving change management in businesses, in this case, Spark New Zealand. As such, the report will highlight some of the roles that leaders and leadership play in businesses, and identify the specific leadership model that will help Spark New Zealand implement the desired organisational changes in its operations. Importantly, the main limitation of this report is the fact that it does not indicate whether the adopted leadership model will be applied to every department as a way of driving organisational change or whether this model will only be used by the General Manager of Spark New Zealand.
Importance leaders and leadership at Spark New Zealand 新西兰星火的重要和领导力
The success of businesses and organisations not only in the 21st century but also in the past is often attributed to leaders and leadership. In this regards, for a group of people to achieve specific goals, they need a leader. Speaking from this perspective, a leader is defined as a person who exercises greater control over others and as such, influences them towards achieving certain objectives (Rosenbach, Taylor & Youndt, 2018). Similarly, Rosenbach, Taylor and Youndt (2018) define leadership as the process of getting people to work together through the influence of their leader, thus making it possible for them to achieve specific defined goals and/or objectives. Importantly, in both definitions influence over a group of people is a critical element, which implies that leaders and leadership cannot exist without the element of influence.
Leadership play critical in promoting effectiveness and efficiency at Spark New Zealand. In reference to Larsson and Vinberg (2010), whereas there are different internal and external factors that impact an organisation’s effectiveness and efficiency, leadership is perceived as the main factor that influences organisations to either succeed or fail in the market. In particular, Larsson and Vinberg (2010) point out that leaders’ behaviour influence how employees in organisations behave, how resources are utilised, as well as the strategies that the organisations adopt in their approach to the target market. Thus, leaders and as such leadership play a critical role in defining the internal environment of Spark New Zealand, and how people within this company behave and function with the aim of attaining its goals.
