The aviation industry faces numerous challenges that undermine its efficiency including natural disasters such as storms and volcanoes, political upheavals, and rapidly changing oil prices among others. For example, the packing of food in the cabin determines whether the company will promote efficiency or lead to wastage of resources such as cabin crew being forced to make unnecessary motion (Thorhallsdottir, 2016). Similarly, to improve its efficiency and service delivery, Delta Air Lines need to apply the principles of waste and lean management to refine the way the company handles baggage. In this case, the company could use tools such as Statistical Process Control Framework to identify the factors that contribute to delay in the delivery of baggage, as well as the factors that contribute to baggage being sent to wrong destinations (Ayeni, Ball & Baines, 2016). This will help ensure that the luggage of this airline’s customers is transported safely from on point to another without failure. The use of Statistical Process Control Framework will also help the airline eliminate any form of variation in its service delivery, leading to better and consistent customer satisfaction.
